Pay as You Feel - donations in this case will be used to continue publicising and marketing this event.
Our Poetry and Spoken Word events are (usually) held on the second Saturday of the month at 3 p.m., with a Poetry Writing Workshop running from 2 pm to 3 pm for anyone interested.
Our feature this June is Anke - the person who organises this event. She is publishing a poetry anthology (my first!) this year: 'Dreaming at the Crossroads'. While physical copies won't yet be available to share, come along to enjoy a preview of the works in it.
Anke was born in Germany and illustrates stories, poems, and events, using sand and an ‘old-school’ overhead projector. Her sand-work has been seen at spoken word poetry events including at Trades Hall and Federation Square. She runs a monthly poetry event in Dandenong. She also writes poetry and lyrics. Anke has worked throughout Australia as a performer, facilitator and artist, with Theatro Oneiron and Crossroad Arts. She regularly performs in the neo-folk duo 'Awkward Strangers. If you are not sure how to say Anke's name, it rhymes with the German word for thank you – ‘Danke’. Anke's parents first met in a circus. She has been told that says a lot about her.
An 'open mic' is available for as many poets as possible before and after our feature (or as much poetry as we are happy to share before our time is up).
This gig is happy to celebrate young poets (the Little Aesthetics program for anyone 12 and under) as well as people who read the works of other poets (the Rhetorical Recreation Society). If you have work you would like other people to present, you will always find cheerful readers, too.
The venue for Perc.U.lations is the wonderfully generous Kafé on Hemmings (86 Hemmings St), in Dandenong, about a 15-minute walk from either Dandenong or Yarraman train stations. There is also handy, free parking available behind the medical centre on the opposite corner.
This event is ticketed using ‘Pay as you Feel’ via Eventbrite, as the Kafé will continue serving the general public. Therefore, open-mic and feature presenters are asked to keep their works in the 'PG' range for this event.
Perc.U.lations is affiliated with Radio Laria and is committed to highlighting the voices of women and gender-diverse poets. At least 50% of all features throughout the year will be women; however, men are also encouraged to apply to this event, and the open mic is open to anyone.
Perc.U.lations, is taking place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunarong peoples of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded, and we extend our respect to Indigenous elders past, present, and emerging.
