For the past five years, Zoë Carides has been selling out venues in the lead role of Camelot faves the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood Experience. Best known for her stage and screen work, singing has always been part of Zoë’s performing life, from being backing vocalist for Chris Bailey of The Saints and co-fronting M Squared band The Same to singing jazz standards with Peter Head. When I Was Little is her first album of original material, songs written over the years either on nylon string guitar or piano, fleshed out for this one-off concert with backing by The Nature Strip (John Encarnacao produced the album). This evening presents a unique opportunity to share Zoë’s inner world, where her innate talent as a performer meets folk and chamber pop settings of her deepest thoughts. For fans of Joni Mitchell, Cat Power and Laura Marling, this is one for the diary.
Opening the evening, Anni Finsterer sings sparse, dark and downright funky songs of love, desire and indifference - slow, deep, raw, folk blues ballads accompanied by her crack group The Electric Fins. With lots of jazz tunes and theatre shows under this lady’s belt, you get Nick Cave and Blondie rolled into one.
