LET ME OUT [let me out]
Ten short plays about the search for safety
I was thirteen when the world became quiet again. I remember that morning, because for the first time the planes didn’t wake me up. The birds did.
- from Craters in the Sunset by Thulitha Senevirathne
Sometimes a sanctuary can become a prison and a prison can become a sanctuary. LET ME IN [let me out] is ten short plays about safe spaces, terrifying places, running away, and finding home.
In January a group of Ryde Youth Theatre’s best young playwrights sat down to consider the concept of asylum, what it is and when we need it. The resulting plays are everything from hilariously funny to hauntingly sad, and all utterly captivating.
LET ME IN [let me out] will be Ryde Youth Theatre’s sixth annual production of short plays written, directed and performed by young people. The towering brick arches of the Ryde Park Band Rotunda put a beautiful frame around this most theatrical of experiences.
Let Me In [let me out] contains some adult language and is not suitable for young people under the age of 13.
While the Ryde Park Band Rotunda is a beautiful venue, having been built in 1934 it is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. If you have any accessibility concerns please give us a call on 0410 353 118.
