“Billie is the real deal” -Jenny Morris

“I love what Billie does”-Jill Scott

Billie McCarthy has always been too much. Too fat, too opinionated or too passionate. In her award winning cabaret “Billie McCarthy Takes Up Space’ Billie tells the story of her journey from precocious fat kid to unsure young woman to bad boss bitch. Part kick in the guts, part goodnight kiss this show is funny, acerbic, confessional, no holds barred truth.

Billie pulls no punches talking about the pitfalls of modern dating, her very unconventional upbringing, overcoming deep trauma and negotiating the world as an outspoken, unabashed fat woman.

As one of Sydney’s most in demand singers, Billie has performed all over Australia and the world with NGAIIRE, OMAR, CHET FAKER, TUKA and PAUL MAC among others at events such as Java Soul Nation Festival (Indonesia), Groovin' The Moo, Sakifo (Reunion Island), Bluesfest, Brisbane Festival, CMJ (New York), Listen Out, Splendour In The Grass, Culture Collide (Los Angeles) and Sydney Festival…and now she’s bringing all that experience home to tell her tale.

Billie is a country girl who took the jazz bus to the city and had a dirty love affair in a back lane with neo soul. Singing her original Australian music (with some overseas flavor) this show traverses musical genres with ease. Hold on for the ride and Billie will help you see the world for how it really is. Accompanied by the prodigious talents of Andrew Bruce and Nick Meredith this is a story that is determined to take, up, space!
