Program:
Sophie Hanna (Riverine Plains) – will introduce the demo trial plan and protocol along with the project purpose and background. More details on the project: Changing landscapes with drought resilient pastures - Riverine Plains
Sophie will talk through details of the demo and pasture density, biomass and species composition and quality data.
John Bruce (Host farmer) – running through why they were interested in this project and implemented this demo on their farm, thoughts on what we have found so far and what it means for their production system and drought resilience.
Richard Hayes (Senior Research Scientist NSW DPI)– implications of soil acidity on pasture performance, measuring soil acidity (importance of 5 cm increments), understanding soil test results and implications for pasture performance, lucerne density and persistence, companion species.
Susan Robertson (Senior Research Fellow CSU)– key outcomes from the models developed, including implications of rotational grazing vs set stocking, and autumn vs spring lambing, on sheep and pasture performance.
