Social security is a foundational institution in Australian society, designed to provide stability and support when people need it — but years of policy choices have left it falling far short of that purpose.

Join us on Monday 16th February for the launch of Framing Social Security, a new message guide developed by Common Cause Australia in partnership with Economic Justice Australia.

This evidence-based message guide will help advocates, campaigners, lawyers, and policy professionals talk about social security in ways that build public support for meaningful reform, including raising payment rates and ending compulsory activities.

Drawing on in-depth message research with thousands of Australians, the guide shows how small shifts in language, values, and story structure can make a big difference to how people think and feel about social security. It offers practical guidance for communicating in ways that reduce stigma, avoid unhelpful frames, and strengthen support for a system that provides stability, dignity, and real support when people need it.
