Join pianist and composer Sophie Hutchings for a pair of intimate east coast shows before she heads overseas for her European tour. She’ll be joined by a pair of friends from Australian artist-run label Spirit Level: Anatole in Sydney, and Braille Face in Melbourne.
Described by MOJO as ‘stirring, vigorous and grandly melodic’ and by The Guardian as ‘intimate and contemplative,’ Sophie Hutchings’ piano compositions sway from the disarmingly fragile to the romantic and epic.
Her beautiful studio work - which led to an Australian Music Prize nomination in 2016 - transfers effortlessly into her renowned live performances, with audiences channelling her emotive awareness, and yielding to her music’s quiet beauty.
Selected recently as one of the top five instrumentalists in the country at the National Live Music Awards, Sophie has opened for artists such as Olafur Arnalds, Federico Albanese and Lambert, and has taken her music on tour around the world. She is also a quiet sensation on streaming services, with over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Joining Sophie in Sydney is Anatole, a young electronic producer who draws from a classical background to produce his signature sound – orchestral techniques combined with beat-driven production. Reminiscent of Bonobo and Taylor McFerrin, his gorgeous hybrid organic-electronic music has caught the attention of UK post-classical record label MercuryKX, where his labelmates now include Luke Howard and Olafur Arnalds, who also appears on a recent Anatole single.
