Sydney powerhouse sextet HAMMERHEAD, led by internationally acclaimed tenor saxophonist JASON BRUER, deliver high-energy original jazz with serious muscle & imagination. Since bursting onto the Sydney scene in 2011, Hammerhead have developed a distinctive sound drawing on hard bop, funk, urban jazz & chamber jazz, combining the power & spontaneity of a great live band with Bruer’s compelling original compositions. Their three albums — 'Mozaic' (2014), 'Turning Point' (2019) & 'I Didn’t Get To Where I Am Today' (2023) — have earned critical acclaim in Australia & internationally. Their latest release received a 4.5 star review in The Australian, with legendary Australian pianist Mike Nock hailing it as their best album to date. Hammerhead have performed at major festivals including Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival, Sydney Conservatorium International Jazz Festival, Manly Jazz Festival, Thredbo Jazz Festival & Capital Jazz Festival, as well as headlining the Jazz Up North concert series at Cairns’ Tanks Arts Centre.
