VOICES BEYOND THE SUBURBS

The Soldier Settlers of Tuggeranong
by Jenny Horsfield

In 1920, eight men who had served in the Great War took up soldier settler blocks at Tuggeranong, on land that had formerly belonged to the Cunningham family. They faced years of uncertain markets, isolation, drought, weed infestation and the rabbit plague in a decade that was to test the strongest of men and culminate in the Depression. This is their story.

Join author Jenny Horsfield, with historian Matthew Higgins and writer and commentator Dr Michael McKernan, for the launch of this fascinating new work on Canberra’s history.
