Charles gained a BSc in Zoology at ANU before going into farming and developing a prominent Merino sheep stud business “Severn Park” on the Monaro. He still manages the family’s grazing property in NSW while teaching at universities and consulting. Charles’ concern about land degradation led to him completing a PhD in Human Ecology (ANU). This resulted in his new book, ‘Call of the Reed Warbler: A New Agriculture – A New Earth’ concerning the emergence of a regenerative agriculture in Australia.
Colin and his son own the 2000 acre property “Winona” in the Gulgong district.  The property is managed using methods that continually regenerate its grassland, soil and farm ecosystem. The Seis family has been grazing merino sheep and growing cereal crops in the Gulgong area since the 1860s.  In 1993 Colin developed “Pasture Cropping”, then in 2011 he improved on this practice, developing ‘Multi Species Pasture Cropping’. This management tool produces more diversity, while enhancing ecological function & soil health, increasing soil carbon, reducing insect attack, and reducing pesticide and fertiliser use on farms worldwide
