We have selected four of Greece’s master bouzouki players who will focus on:

- Technique

- Improvisation (taksimi)

- Modes (dromoi)

- Open Bouzouki Tunings

This suite of masterclasses will take place every Monday throughout the month of February from 6:00pm – 7:30pm (AEST)/ 9am-10:30am (Greece) via zoom. Each week you will learn from a new master, schedule as follows:

1 Feb: Lefteris Tsikouridis
8 Feb: Fotis Vergopoulos
15 Feb: Vassilis Skoutas
22 Feb: Manolis Pappos

Geared at three-stringed bouzouki players, this course is for students who are at a medium to advanced level.

Language of instruction: Greek

Cost: $200 AUD (includes four 1.5 hour master classes).

LEFTERIS TSIKOURIDIS - 1 Feb
Born in Drama, Lefteris attended traditional Greek dance classes and took up the bouzouki from a young age. He went on to complete his studies in the Department of Music Studies at the Ionian University.

He currently lives in Thessaloniki and works as an Associate Professor in the department of Music Science and Art at the University of Macedonia, where he teaches "Soundscapes of the Greek Area, Interpretation and Execution," as well as "Three-String Bouzouki" and "Tamboura" specialisations.

He is a founding member of the band "Pliri Ntaxei" and an active member of "Rebeteke." He has toured with these bands and has and has been invited as a distinguished guest lecturer at conferences throughout Greece, Europe as well as Canada and Australia.

FOTIS VERGOPOULOS - 8 Feb
Fotis is part of the new generation of talent from Greece whose musicianship and feel for Rebetika (Greek Blues) is inimitable. His talent has seen him tour Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, France and Belgium. Fotis was born in Melbourne and before turning one his family relocated to his spiritual home in Koroni Messinias, Greece. His involvement with music comes at the young age of 6 with the main trigger being his father Nikos who was an inaugural member of the Apodimi Kompania. He resides in Athens where has performed with many notable artists including Stellios Vamvakaris, Socratis Malamas, Manolis Pappos to name a few.

VASSILIS SKOUTAS - 15 Feb
Vassilis Skoutas was born Agrinio to a family of farmers. He movied to Athens to pursue studies in percussion. He is self-taught singer, bouzouki and guitar player who has collaborated with some of the greats in the palio laiko and traditional music genres. Vassilis has a fluid and seamless playing style and is one of the most talented yet understated players on the scene.

MANOLIS PAPPOS - 22 Feb
Manolis Pappos was born in Piraeus to a family originating from Samos. He is a self-taught bouzouki and guitar player who first came to these instruments via the laiko genre. He works as a professional musician, playing in taverns, bars and concerts and has recorded with some of Greece’s most notable composers and singers. He has collaborated with Nikos Papazoglou, Dimitra Galani, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Giorgos Dalaras, Eleni Vitali, Socrates Malamas, Orfeas Peridis and Mikis Theodorakis.

Επιλέξαμε τέσσερις από τους καλύτερους παίχτες μπουζουκιού στην Ελλάδα, που θα επικεντρωθούν:
- στην τεχνική
- στον αυτοσχεδιασμό (ταξίμι)
- στους δρόμους
- στο ανοιχτό παίξιμο

Τα μαθήματα θα γίνονται κάθε Δευτέρα όλο τον Φλεβάρη από τις 6μμ έως τις 7:30μμ ‘Ωρα Ανατολικής Aυστραλίας / 9:00πμ έως τις 10:30πμ Ωρα Ελλαδος μέσω ζουμ. Κάθε βδομάδα θα σας διδάσκει διαφορετικός παίχτης σύμφωνα με το εξής πρόγραμμα:

1 Φεβ: Λευτέρης Τσικουρίδης
8 Φεβ: Φώτης Βεργόπουλος
15 Φεβ: Βασίλης Σκούτας
22 Φεβ: Μανώλης Πάππος

Ειδικά σχεδιασμένο πρόγραμμα για παίχτες τρίχορδου μπουζουκιού που είναι μέτριοι ή προχωρημένοι.

Κόστος: $200 δολλάρια Αυστραλίας (συμπεριλαμβάνει τέσσερα μαθήματα της 1,5 ώρας).
