After completing her Mass Communications degree at Macquarie University, Dioni Vertzayas studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music before setting off for Europe. After further study at the Conservatorium of Pireaus, she launched her musical career in Greece collaborating with Giorgos Katsaros.

In 2001 she co-founded her electro-pop group Astyplaz, for whom she was lyricist and vocalist and toured throughout North America and Europe. She has worked and toured with major British acts such as “Soft Cell” and the “Chemical Brothers”; has performed as a solo artist in France, Germany, Greece, Qatar and of course Australia. Her versatility as a performer is evident both in her multilingual as well as theatrical capabilities.

Previous concerts in Australia include the sell-out “Ode to a Crisis” shows and “Divas” tours. The “Songstresses” project is an homage to the female singers of the golden age of Greek cinema. Following the success of the first sold-out concert which included an orchestra, this show is a more intimate performance and will be Dioni’s farewell to Oz as she has performance commitments back in Greece.

This current series of shows sees her working for the first time with George Ellis who conducted the orchestra for the first concert, and with George Doukas with whom she has worked many times over the years, including the “Ode to Crisis” and “Divas” shows.
