In order to effectively promote and lead differentiation, school leaders need to have a clear understanding of differentiation and what it looks like in practice. They also need to ensure that pedagogical, administrative and logistical barriers to differentiated practice are addressed. This is a specialist course for teachers, coordinators and school leaders who have either completed the Growing Up Greatness three-day course Differentiation – The art and science of becoming a flexible and effective teacher of all students, or who have an expert-level understanding of differentiated practice. This course is designed to take your knowledge further with a focus on reviewing and implementing school-wide practice to cater for the full range of student abilities, and building the profiles of your teachers as quality practitioners who can differentiate in all areas of their teaching, and articulate to parents how they cater for different students. This course will be a combination of theory and practical planning, and course objectives will include:

- Increase your understanding of the ways teachers can differentiate process, product, environment and content, with a focus on differentiating content and assessment for varying student abilities

- Identify the tangible evidence of differentiated practice in teaching, programs & assessment, in order to better understand what differentiation looks like in the context of your school, learning area, team or own practice

- Better understand how to use the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers to measure the effectiveness of differentiated practice.

- Identify how differentiation is described, supported and valued in school policy, processes and practice

- Identify barriers to differentiated practice, and explore strategies to remove or manage these (including assessment, student feedback, programming etc)

- Increase your understanding of how schools and teachers can articulate how teaching and learning is adjusted for students with different abilities, in order to promote a school culture of quality and responsive teaching.

- Identify goals to enact change; and

- Share strategies and ideas with other participants, in order to explore creative solutions to issues.

Participants are encouraged to examine existing differentiated practice and barriers to implementation before the course, and are welcome to bring examples of policy or practice to share or seek critical feedback.

Sign-in from 8.15am.  Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
