STEAM AUSTRALIA

Locomotives that Galvanised the Nation by Tim Fischer

For a century, from 1850 to 1950, steam locomotive haulage dominated Australia’s various rail systems. Rail networks expanded and steam locomotives traversed the country during critical stages of our nation’s development, including transporting soldiers to fields of conflict as we fought in two world wars.

Join Tim Fischer for a journey through the great tapestry of rail networks to understand how the nation was galvanised with economic growth delivered by steam. The event will include an official launch of the book by the Hon. Dr Brett Mason, Chair of Council, National Library of Australia.
