This class introduces you to The Harold Chicago's signature long form improvisation format.

The Harold is a format that is performed all around the world - it weaves together multiple threads of characters and stories through two person scenes, group games and organic exploration of themes - all inspired by a single word.

Succesful completion of Big Fork Theatre's Intermediate 2: Group Mind required to take this class. Special consideration may be made if you don't fit this criteria but you feel that you have the required training and skill please contact our Training Director at training@bigforktheatre.com to discuss. 

Specific skills and topics covered:

  • The Harold format
  • Developing a single word suggestion into themes, characters and ideas for scenes
  • Weaving individual scenes together into a full-length improvised show
  • Stage craft and creating visually compelling theatre

This course meets for 6 sessions on Sunday Afternoons starting 4 August, 1:00PM that are each 3 hours long, leading to a final graduation performance by the entire class on Friday 13 September.  The final class will be on 8 September.

Improv is for everyone. It doesn't matter how experienced or inexperienced you are as a performer Big Fork Theatre's classes are designed to benefit everyone. Our classes focus on developing your listening skills, stage confidence and team work.

Big Fork Theatre's improvisational classes are beneficial for actors and comedians looking to add a new skill set to their performing repertoire. Improv is becoming increasingly desired when casting and can help performers adjust to any situation whether it be during an audition or in the rehearsal room.

Improvisation is an excellent way to improve your communication skills and confidence when speaking in public.

Big Fork Theatre is dedicated to long form improvisation in the Chicago and New York style, as made famous by Tina Fey, Amy Poheler and Mike Meyers.  Big Fork primarily focuses on comedic improvisation.

Big Fork's teachers have many years experience both in teaching and performing, many of whom have traveled around the world to learn from some of the best improv teachers there are.  Our teachers are committed to creating a fun and enriching environment to learn in and grow the Brisbane improvisational community.
