Mick Medew was born in Brisbane and spent his teenage years learning and practising guitar in his bedroom, before forming high school bands and playing at school dances.

Mick Medew's recording career began as a lead guitarist, forming a Detroit rock/Radio Birdman inspired band called The 31st, in Brisbane, in 1979.

In early 1981 Mick formed The Screaming Tribesmen in Brisbane. Their debut release was a self titled 7 inch E.P. The band relocated to Sydney in 1983 and released the critically acclaimed single,Igloo, which Mick co wrote with Ron Peno.

In 1984 The Tribesmen had a new lineup including Mick, Chris Masuak on lead guitar, BobWackley on bass and Michael Charles, who released the classic 12 inch E.P. Date with a Vampyre. The band gigged extensively around Australia and toured the U.S.A. and Europe.

After many tours and lineup changes they called it a day in 1996.

Mick moved back to Brisbane in the early 2000s.

In 2008, Mick formed Mick Medew and the Rumours, after a sabbatical from the music industry. The band released a debut album, For Your Love, on I-94 Bar Records in 2009, then toured the east coast of Australia in 2010.

In 2011 the "classic" line-up of the Screaming Tribesmen re-formed to play dates on the east coast of Australia and the Azkena festival in Spain. Re-mastered versions of their classic recordings Date with a Vampyre, Top of the Town and Bones and Flowers were released at this time.

Mick was awarded the prestigious GW McLennan Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Queensland Music Awards.

Since 2011, Medew has been performing with a new project called Mick Medew and The Mesmerisers. This band features ex-Screaming Tribesmen members Brian Mann (guitarist/producer) and drummer Michael Charles. The line-up also includes bassist Lois Andrews. They have released a debut album and are preparing a follow-up to be released in 2019. In late 2017, Medew dissolved Mick Medew and the Rumours to focus on The Mesmerisers.

Join Mick for a rare intimate solo performance at The Bison Bar May 4th with special guest Defo Mofo.
