The Nambour Winter Jazz Fest is giving guitarists the opportunity to boost their performance skills at a jazz guitar workshop on Saturday 20th July, from 9:30 – 11:00am with festival artist Bruce Woodward.

Bruce Woodward has quietly been establishing a reputation as one Queensland’s finest jazz guitarists. Bruce is currently lecturer in guitar at the University of Southern Queensland and is known for his distinctive playing and unique voice on the guitar. He is a graduate of both the Western Australian and Queensland Conservatories and has performed at many festivals and events.

Bruce has also been a member of a number of groups, sharing long creative partnerships with artists such as The View from Madeleine’s Couch and Mark Sholtez. He has contributed his distinctive playing to performances and recordings by artists as diverse as James Morrison, Bill Watrous, Mark Sholtez, Wendy Matthews, Rick Price, Sara Storer and Tom Burlinson.

Performing later in the day at the Nambour Winter Jazz Fest, Bruce will take time out to share his talents with workshop participants. Suitable for those with existing guitar skills who want to understand the skills and techniques particular to jazz guitar, participants will learn practical approaches to accompaniment and soloing over jazz harmony. Topics may include introduction to jazz chords, improvising melodic lines, jazz rhythm, and ear training. This will be a marvellous opportunity for musicians to learn from a guitarist of such a high calibre.

The workshop takes place in C-Square, Currie St, Nambour.  You will be notified of the venue closer to the date. Tickets: $47 or $37 for students.
