This four week beginner bonsai course covers the essentials for creating, styling and maintaining bonsai. By the end of the course, students will have taken home four potted bonsai and be confident in how to nurture their creations. This course is perfect for those wishing to gain experience in different styles including: informal upright, cascade, forest and literati. Held in the Terrace Room each Wednesday for 4 weeks. Suitable for ages 8+. Please note, this course will require a minimum of ten participants to go ahead. The Terrace Room is located next the the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection and can be accessed after hours by following the dirt road from the top tier of the car park.

Session 1: Wednesday 4 September

·Introduction

  • Create a bonsai from raw material
  • Learn trimming, wiring & potting.

Session 2: Wednesday 11 September

·Create a bonsai from raw material

  • Learn feeding and tree health

Session 3: Wednesday 18 September

·Create another style of bonsai

  • Learn annual maintenance

Session 4: Wednesday 25 September

·Create another style of bonsai

  • Learn pest management
  • Learn pruning and future development
