INGRID JAMES QUARTET - The Eloquence of Miss Nancy Wilson - $21.50
Nancy Wilson was an American singer with more than 70 albums and 3 Grammy Awards with an illustrious career from the 60’s to 2011. She had been described as “the girl with the honey-coated voice”. Never one to be labelled however, Nancy initially focussed on rhythm and blues, soul and pop, then under “Cannonball” Adderley’s influence, she began to embrace jazz and torch songs.Award-winning Queensland jazz singer, Ingrid James, who has been described as “a note perfect, brilliant singer” (Janet Seidel) and is a singer who has “ventured far beyond Australian shores to Europe and the US to record with an impressive array of international musicians” (Pete Churchill, Professor Jazz Composition, Royal Academy Music, UK). However, she first saw Nancy perform “live” in Brisbane at the Hilton Hotel in the 90’s, which left an indelible imprint. In this show, Ingrid will celebrate the music, life and diversity of Nancy Wilson along with a stellar lineup - John Reeves (piano), Andrew Shaw (bass) and Sacha Kloostra (drums).
“Thoughtful, inventive and, above all, swinging, Ingrid squeezes every line for nuance and meaning” David Bentley, Journalist Courier-Mail/pianist, singer, composer
“One of the jazz world’s most phenomenally gifted voices” Steve Robertson, Jazz Writer and Host, Fleurieu FM, SA
