This event is an in conversation led by Dr Guy Hansen. The panel of three – Guy Hansen, Geoff Pryor and David Pope - will discuss Pope and Pryor’s work and the accessible social commentary that is created in cartooning. The event will focus on the work produced locally at The Canberra Times.

Geoff Pryor is a retired Australian political cartoonist. He was the editorial cartoonist for The Canberra Times newspaper between 1978 and 2008. During this 30-year career, Pryor generally drew seven cartoons per week for the newspaper. Pryor's style was influenced by his predecessor at The Canberra Times, Larry Pickering. His graphic style is ornate, much more detailed and portrait-like than that of such contemporaries as Patrick Cook. He was cartoonist for The Saturday Paper until his "second retirement" in December 2018

David Pope is an Australian cartoonist who first started drawing cartoons for the alternative press in the mid-1980s, under the pen name Hinze. He worked as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator for many years, including at The Sun-Herald in Sydney following the marvellous Jenny Coopes, before joining The Canberra Times as a staff artist in 2008 when local cartooning legend Geoff Pryor retired. His cartoons have appeared in range of publications, including The Labour Studies Briefing, The Republican, The Northern Rivers Echo, The Diplomat, The New Doctor, Overland, Arena, and various trade union newspapers, including Common Cause, Hard Hat, The Queensland Nurse and The AEU News
