Three Women

Marking Women’s Day this month with a special concert in the round, this unmissable night will feature award-winning singer/songwriter Miriam Lieberman as well as soulful songstress Alexi Kaye. Their music will be interspersed with spoken word by Miriam Hechtman - writer and founder of the poetry movement: Poetica. Miriam Lieberman sings and plays kora - 21 stringed African harp - “ All lilting folk tunes overlaid with sprightly Kora (West African harp) playful strings as though Joni Mitchel and Paul Simon had convened in a Bamako back street “ (The Guardian). With this comes Alexi kaye’s warm soulful voice & classic rhodes keyboard grooves

THREE WOMEN - MORE INFO ON THE ARTISTS

“ When Miriam Lieberman sings “lay your burden down” on this (new) album’s first song, Infinite We Are, it is as much a gentle exhortation as it is a call to arms…. there is a hypnotic, ever-shifting quality to Lieberman’s work that gives the impression that “transforming” is not something that frightens her “ - 4.5 Stars, Jessie Cunniffe Spectrum SMH - 18th June 2021

Miriam’s latest album Just Transforming has been voted by The Guardian within the top Australian releases of 2021. African influences blend seamlessly with blues-infused melodies and soaring vocals in the music by this singer song-writer. Her live performances are soulful collections of stories, beautifully told through African kora, percussive guitar and Lieberman’s unmistakable voice.

Growing up amidst the rich vocal and musical traditions of South Africa, as well as having been lead vocalist with Extended Family and member of girl acapella foursome Kaya, Alexi Kaye is now an unmissable solo artist. Her music travels deep into the heart and moves us to the true spirit of things.

Published poet, actor, writer and community gatherer, writer Miriam Hecthman takes us on an easily accessible journey into spoken word and poetry with the wisdom of writer Mary Oliver at the forefront of her actions. “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
