Sea of Hope | Moře na dvoře
Czech with English subtitles
A warm, witty reminder that life begins the moment we stop postponing it—and finally choose what truly matters.
AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE
Drama - Comedy
Czech Republic | 2025 | 102 min
Sea of Hope is the latest feel-good triumph from acclaimed filmmaker Martin Horský, creator of the Czech hit Women on the Run. Starring audience favourites Ondřej Vetchý and Jiří Langmajer, the film blends humour, tenderness, and a surprisingly deep reflection on how we spend the time we’re given.
Josef, a master violin maker, has devoted his life to perfect craftsmanship while postponing everything that truly matters. His quiet world revolves around his workshop, his loyal dog, and a tiny courtyard puddle he fondly calls his “sea.” He believes he has endless time ahead: time to build the perfect violin, time to confess his affection for his neighbour Anežka, time for dreams saved for “later.”
But when life suddenly shows him how fragile time really is, Josef must confront the gap between intention and action. Sorting through what matters most, he begins to act not only for himself but also for the people he cares about. In his gentle, often humorous way, he even tries to arrange life around them, imagining how to ease their path without him.
A captivating blend of romance, humour, and heartfelt insight, Sea of Hope celebrates the moment we stop postponing happiness and begin truly living.
