Details
Cathrine Summers "she's described as a cross between Dinah Washington and Anita O’Day, with a splash of Ella Fitzgerald. International and national Perth based Summers’ is known for her ‘instantly familiar’ stage candour and her uniquely versatile tone that delivers warmth with a soft, floaty quality, as well as a raspy, deep and bluesy sound. She's often weaving tid-bits of rich musical history from bygone eras into her performances. It’s this persona coupled with her rich timbre and broad vocal range that has given her a title of ‘a delight to watch."
EUROPEAN COTTON CLUB - Friday 16th August @ Cottesloe Beach Hotel
It's a Cotton Club Charleston extravaganza. This lively show mixes up old standards, cool jazz, an abundance of French, Spanish and Italian songs as well as songs featured on the Great Gatsby Soundtrack like a traditional jazz version of Beyoncé’s 'Crazy In Love' and Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black'
Featured throughout this show is the famous 'Charleston' rhythm which was popularised in mainstream dance music in the United States by a 1923 tune called "The Charleston". The dance was actually banned from many dance halls during the 1920s because it was considered too boisterous and indecent.
Elements of the Charleston went into the swing dance style known as Lindy Hop and during the 1950s and 1960s the Charleston made a few more surging reappearances since it's all time high.
You’ll find yourself compelled to tap along to this up-beat, fun, swingin’ 5-piece jazz ensemble. A larger than life energetic vibe!
