WHAT?

A paniyiri is a festival usually attached to a religious celebration. A paniyiri can also be considered as a seasonal marker and what better way to usher in spring than with MUSIC and DANCE. The festivities will take place outside on the lawn of the Pratto.

WHY?

We want to bring the Dionysian vibes of the Greek village festivals to Sydney. Feel the mirth and ecstasy of a dancing hand in hand with friends and strangers, the flowing retsina (Resch’s Draught), the smell of Souvla (souvlakia/ samosas) in the air, the sunshine beating down on the plateia (bowlo green). From Thrace to Crete; from the Ionian to the Dodecanese, Aegean Quartet and friends will present an aural degustation of traditional tunes from different regions in Greece. This is all about culture sharing, authenticity, participation and connection. Bring your instruments, singing voice, dancing shoes and appetite.

SOCIAL IMPACT:

The Pratto is a social enterprise run by Metro Assist which has trained refugees and migrants to operate the club kitchen and for jobs in catering and hospitality. The funds from your ticket will go towards further training and jobs for migrant and refugee women as well as logistic costs.
