The Aerial Maps with Brooke Taylor and extra-special guest, Mick Thomas

“The Aerial Maps are one of the most important bands in the country." - Inpress

The Aerial Maps are excited to announce the Sydney launch of their fourth album, “Our Sunburnt Dream”, at the Django Bar on Saturday, August 17, with support performance by much-loved Melbourne singer/songwriter/guitar slinger Brooke Taylor and with the legendary Mick Thomas as extra special guest.

Coming two years after their most recent album and 16 years after their debut underground Australian classic, ‘In The Blinding Sunlight’, the new album is a widescreen panorama of songs, sounds, ideas, and stories, spawning 2 shimmering singles, the sweeping ‘Eucalyptus Road’, and the shimmering ‘Any Summer Day’.

Acclaimed as “one of Australia’s most exciting bands” (The Courier Mail) and “in the vein of the Triffids, The Go-Betweens, and Not Drowning Waving in their uniquely Australian subject matter, tone, and texture” (The Sunday Telegraph), the Aerial Maps tell stories of landscape and the people that inhabit that space. From Australia and beyond, from Broome to Broken Hill and London to San Sebastian, the band take you on a sonic journey.

Joyous, sad, funny, nostalgic, these are songs and stories that evoke memories of times, places and loves; they present a sense of the land, a vision, a swathe of ideas contained in a collection of songs that transport you on a trip through time and place.

Playing in full band mode with the inclusion of the odd secret special guest and playing a set which will range across their expansive back catalogue, the launch of “Our Sunburnt Dream” will be a special evening of celebration, song, and story – an exclusive chance to catch a band which The Age said, “captures a vernacular widescreen vision of Australia imbued with a romantic sense of nostalgia and a road well-travelled.”

Playing as support will be acclaimed Melbourne-based performer Brooke Taylor. A much-loved singer/songwriter, she plays a rare Sydney show, with accompaniment and solo performance from the legendary Mick Thomas, ex frontman for Weddings Parties Anything and one of Australia’s most iconic singer-songwriters.
