"Enchantment Under The Sea" Dance

Come along and enjoy a fun night of 50s music featuring Chiltern's very own band (50s Fools) and local swing dance group, Johnny's Rockers.

We don't have a handy sea in Chiltern but "Enchantment Under The Lake" is Chiltern's version of of "Enchantment Under the Sea" , a pivotal event in the 1985 classic film Back to the Future, directed by Robert Zemeckis. Set in the small town of Hill Valley, the dance takes place in 1955 and serves as the backdrop for a critical moment in the timeline of Marty McFly’s life. The event is a high school tradition, marking the climax of the romance between two characters: George McFly and Lorraine Baines. Unbeknownst to them, Marty, who has traveled back in time, is the one who must ensure that their relationship is set in motion, or else he risks never being born.

The dance itself, held at Hill Valley High School’s gymnasium, is a nostalgic and magical setting that represents the romantic idealism of the 1950s. It’s the perfect time capsule of an era marked by rock 'n' roll, poodle skirts, and the golden age of teenage romance. The night is filled with energetic music, jitterbug dances, and classic slow songs, encapsulating the vibrant teenage culture of the time. For Marty, the dance becomes not only a race against time to fix history but also a chance to reconnect with the love story that ties his parents together.
