Liza Ohlback and Mercy Train featured on our Groove Cruise #25 in 2023, and Groove Cruise #38 in 2024, and both were a huge success! Liza's voice is a mix of the soul/Gospel/Blues greats – Etta James, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin – one minute low and gritty, the next soaring, then soothing with a vulnerable smoky tone! Her unique mix of Soulful Blues, Rootsy Gospel and New Orleans Jazz music is gutsy and uplifting, often poignant, and sometimes chilling. A triple ‘CHAIN’ award winner in Australia, winner of Favourite Female Vocalist in the 2024 Sydney Blues Society Awards, Liza has released a number of albums, a recent one ‘Unravelling’ reaching #1 in Australia, #1 on the U.S. RMR International charts and #8 on the UK charts! Liza has also toured extensively at festivals, in theatres, sharing the stage with many local and international acts. She was chosen to play the lead in ‘Pearl – The Janis Joplin story, a rock theatre production that was the only show to be endorsed by the Joplin estate. Joining her on this cruise are the ‘Mercy Train’ boys, some of Sydney’s very best musicians, the always-awesome Ewan Lund on guitar, the ever-cool Mick Malouf on bass and the super-steady Greg Ohlback on drums.
