Blak Label Music, through support from The Creative Sparks Fund, presents Wavey Sessions.
Wavey Sessions is a multi-part series showcasing some of the best up-and-coming musicians, with a focus on building an expanding community of support, learning and representation. The series also gives you the opportunity explore some of the unique venues and nightlife around Meanjin.
Reflective, compelling, and utterly captivating, First Nations singer-songwriter and visual creator GLVES weaves impactful tales of her life, exploring her inner emotional landscape to find healing and self-love. Driven by a deep appreciation of her Kaurareg, Fijian and Polynesian heritage, and a heartfelt longing to further connect with her culture, the Lutruwita-born, Meanjin-residing storyteller harmoniously combines electronic elements, soothing vocal loops, and organic instruments, to create a blend of intense, ethereal and cinematic Blak Folktronica.
DANII is a genre-bending alternative pop-R&B singer/songwriter, dancer and producer. Her bass heavy beats and captivating songwriting hits home with ethereal production, and strong electro-pop influences. DANII takes the audience on a journey through beautiful harmonies, emotional lyrics and high-energy performance, which effortlessly captures the sultry, moody, and fearless nature of her music.
South Sudanese/Australian artist LUATÈ. is an emerging alt-pop singer/songwriter whose vulnerable lyricism is deeply resonant. A modern-day Tracy Chapman, LUATÈ. creates highly emotive works, penning lyrics laden with viscous imagery. Coining the term ‘existentialist pop’, her work is “at its marrow, an acute and urgent pursuit of honesty”. Sonically, she has been compared to artists like Nao, Lorde, and Kira Puru.
The Creative Sparks Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council to support local arts and culture in Brisbane.
