You're Invited: Special Free Screening of The Koalas and Q&A Session
Join us for a powerful, one-night-only free screening of acclaimed documentary The Koalas, exploring the urgent issues of habitat loss and the protection of one of Australia’s most iconic and beloved species.
This community event has been organised in response to growing concern from residents of the Hunter electorate about the increasing threats to native wildlife, especially koalas.
A panel discussion and federal candidate forum will follow the screening. The panel will include a spokesperson for the filmmakers and experts in koala conservation, rescue and care, and environmental law. All candidates for the Hunter electorate are invited to share their perspectives on protecting koalas and the habitats they call home.
🎟️ Cost: Free (but seats are limited—book your free ticket now to secure your seat!)
Doors open at 6:00 PM for 6:30 PM screening.
Our koalas can't vote—but you can. Be informed. Be inspired. Be there.

PANEL MEMBERS
Dr Stuart Blanch
Dr Stuart Blanch works with WWF to protect forests from logging and land clearing. He has a background in ecology and environmental law. He has worked for 27 years for community environment organisations, as well as the NSW government. Dr Blanch collaborated with colleagues at the International Fund for Animal Welfare and Humane Society International to nominate koalas in NSW and Queensland as endangered. For the past four years he has focused on ending public native forest logging, with a focus on saving koala populations and homes, including with other organisations and campaigners in the Forest Alliance NSW.
Alexis Ting
Alexis's journey into koala rescue began with a lifelong passion for wildlife. Nearly five years ago, Alexis joined Hunter Wildlife Rescue where she was fortunate to be mentored by two of the best in the field—Audrey Koosmen and Debbie Breen—who guided her through the world of koala rescue and care. Their knowledge and dedication inspired Alexis deeply, and over time her involvement grew into a true calling. Alexis works closely with Dr. Robin Crisman from Somersby Animal Hospital and after the koalas' initial assessment and treatment at the hospital they are then placed into care with Alexis for further intensive care and observation, with the intention of rehabilitation for release back to the wild.
