Finding the Funny teaches students how to perform Big Fork Theatre’s flagship improv show Cool Story Bro.
Finding the Funny explores how to take true stories and turn them into hilarious improvised scenes. Once students have completed this course they become eligible to join Big Fork Theatre’s Cool Story Bro ensemble.
Successful completion of Big Fork Theatre's Improv Foundations 4: Group Mind required to take this class. Special consideration may be made if you don't fit this criteria but you feel that you have the required training and skill please contact the Directors at training@bigforktheatre.com to discuss.
Specific skills and topics covered:
- Game of the Scene
- Comedic premise based improvisation
- Unpacking true stories to find a comedic premise
- Advanced long form techniques
- How to heighten and explore comedic premises
This course meets for 6 sessions that are each 3 hours long.

Improv is for everyone. It doesn't matter how experienced or inexperienced you are as a performer Big Fork Theatre's classes are designed to benefit everyone. Our classes focus on developing your listening skills, stage confidence and team work.
Big Fork Theatre's improvisational classes are beneficial for actors and comedians looking to add a new skill set to their performing repertoire. Improv is becoming increasingly desired when casting and can help performers adjust to any situation whether it be during an audition or in the rehearsal room.
Improvisation is an excellent way to improve your communication skills and confidence when speaking in public.
About Big Fork Theatre
Big Fork Theatre is dedicated to long form improvisation in the Chicago and New York style, as made famous by Tina Fey, Amy Poheler and Mike Meyers. Big Fork primarily focuses on comedic improvisation.
Big Fork's teachers have many years experience both in teaching and performing, many of whom have traveled around the world to learn from some of the best improv teachers there are. Our teachers are committed to creating a fun and enriching environment to learn in and grow the Brisbane improvisational community.
COVID 19
Big Fork Theatre requires participants in our classes to be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination upon entry to the first class. Those with medical exemptions from their registered GP should send proof of this exemption to training@bigforktheatre.com ahead of the first class.
We will be conducting our classes in line with the latest social distancing guidelines and restrictions for COVID 19. Students will be informed of any changes that may affect this class. It is expected that students will follow the teacher's instructions on social distancing and will not come to class when sick.
Refund Policy
Refunds up to 1 day before the event, Refunds are available until 1 day before the first class. Refunds can be applied for after classes have commenced but must be requested prior to the second class. Transfers may be considered after this time at the discretion of Big Fork Theatre.
