BRISBANE KARNEVAL

It is wild season!

The Karneval season, where the motto is “leben und leben lassen” (live and let live)… with a little extra glitter, punchiness, and chaos thrown in! 

Here’s what that looks like in practice 

Kussfreiheit - Kissing freedom! During Karneval, a peck on the cheek (or two or three!) is fair game - it’s all part of the fun.

Costume logic - there is none. Pirates, bananas, superheroes, and cows dance side by side. The wilder, the better!

Seriousness = Verboten: Work, titles, and hierarchy? Left at the door. For a few magical days, everyone’s equal and slightly ridiculous 

Spontaneity = mandatory: Singing in the street, dancing in the rain, shouting Helau to strangers - all completely acceptable behaviour.

Brisbane Karneval kicks off on 28 February 2026 from 5:22pm at the Brisbane German Club, remember: the fools are in charge, and the world’s a little brighter for it! 

Club rules apply. No thongs, no weapons, no climbing on stage.

Membership not required, but gets you discount at the bar. 

Children under 5 enter free.

Parking is limited, but stop in walking distance. Don't drive - drink! :o)
