Nature journaling is a wonderful way to document the natural world around you and learn more about it at the same time. This workshop will teach you the basics and help you to unleash your inner artist. Suitable for all ages and skill levels, nature journaling is a great way to explore the natural environment and create a lasting memory of wonderful places and experiences. The workshop will start with an introduction to nature journaling and some basic skills. We will then head outside (weather permitting) to put pencil to paper and put what we have learned into practice. You don’t need to be an experienced artist, just willing to look and learn.

Fiona Boxall is a Canberra-based artist, nature journaler and writer whose passionate interest in the natural world forms the basis of her work. She uses a variety of mediums but her favourites are watercolour and gouache, and her subject matter is always an aspect of nature. After a career editing magazines, she and her husband moved to Canberra to be closer to her family. She discovered the Canberra region’s many magnificent nature spots and began painting, drawing and writing about them. The result is A Canberra Nature Journal.

Workshop participants will receive a visual art journal and coloured pencils to take home. Light refreshments are included. This is a members-only event for members of the Friends of the National Library of Australia. Become a Friend.
