Your improvisation journey starts here! This beginners course will introduce you to improv in a judgement-free, low-pressure and friendly environment. You will learn through group, pair and eventually performance games with opportunities for discussion and reflection throughout. 

Discover a new hobby, connect with new people and laugh a whole lot while learning skills with a wide application to daily life.

This eight-week course runs 6:30-9:30pm Wednesday nights from 10 February - 31 March. All participants are invited to showcase their skills at a student show on 6:30pm Thursday 1 April.

Try it first on Saturday 30 January or Wednesday 3 February.

You don't need any previous experience to participate. If you have learned another style of improv (for example, US-style improv, secondary or tertiary drama) this class is a good introduction to narrative improvisation. Narrative improvisation has the broadest application to everyday life and wellbeing.

Your teacher is Cam, who does this for a living! Her signature warm and responsive teaching practice is informed by over a decade of experience in both improvisation and education. Participants in her sessions frequently comment on her ability to create a safe environment to take risks and develop. They appreciate her well-planned and paced material as well as her ability to respond to the individual and changing needs in the room.

Cam is a highly experienced improvisation teacher. She has refined her material and approach over years of teaching adult beginners. Cam is continually adapting classes based on professional learning and student feedback to offer the most fun and effective ways to introduce people to improvisation.

Cam is a tertiary-qualified teacher who has travelled around Australia and the world to teach, direct, perform and learn improvisation for over 10 years. Highlights include performing her original improvised show Swipe Right to an audience of 500, including the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, and studying under the inventor of Theatresports™, Keith Johnstone in Calgary, Canada. She has also had the pleasure of introducing improvisation to a wide range of corporate executives - and the entire Queensland cricket team!

What comes next?

Cam runs a weekly performance club in Woolloongabba. Anyone who has completed the beginners course is welcome to come and play. She also teaches regular follow-on courses at least four times a year including mindful impro, story-building, playing characters, confronting fears and connecting with fellow players. Your beginners course also opens up the world of improvisation in Brisbane and beyond!
