About emerge 2.0

Difficult times call for different measures. In 2020, the AIM Dramatic Arts Emerge New Short Works Festival moves to the online performance space to reinvent itself as emerge 2.0.

This digital showcase is powered by the 2020 Bachelor of Performance graduating students as Hexagon Theatre Company, under the artistic direction of Dr David Fenton and the professional mentorship of writer Leah Pellinkhof, producer Peta Downes, production designer Megan Venhoek, lighting designer Ben Anshaw and sound designer Michael Huxley.

Challenging rehearsal and performance parameters to keep creating during lockdown, Hexagon Theatre Company has worked intensively together over the past three months to develop three new works that harness theatre and film techniques and technology to offer audiences a different type of interface.

ENABLED by Maggie Thomas

What are you willing to do to get what you want?

A moment of weakness. Two people are thrown into the dark world of social media with dangerous repercussions. ENABLED highlights the blurred morality behind the world of modern technology.

LOCKDOWN LOVERS by Stacey Parviainen

Could you survive two months locked up with a stranger and find love?

When the world is socially distanced, how are you supposed to find the one? A riff on reality TV dating shows, LOCKDOWN LOVERS follows the journeys of six people in their desperate search for love.

THE OLD WORLD by Jake Cain-Roser

How will you be remembered?

Faced with insurmountable odds, how do you find the strength to keep going? There’s always one person who believes in you. THE OLD WORLD tells the story of four friends and what they leave behind to show the world they existed.

Performance Information

emerge 2.0 is a digital showcase of three new short works, delivered by AIM Dramatic Arts which requires the audience to watch the performance online. All instructions for digital access will be forwarded on ticket purchase via a supplied link.

The showcase will be accessible from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th August, 2020.

Patrons will have access to the showcase for a 12-hour period (7pm-7am) and can watch each show at their leisure during this time. This production is M rated and not suitable for patrons under the age of 15. It contains coarse language, adult themes and simulated violence.

emerge 2.0 is one of two projects undertaken by AIM Dramatic Arts Bachelor of Performance students that form the performance practice capstone of their final year of study. Each project designates that the students collaborate creatively to engage with the different production and performance roles required for the development and delivery of a public theatre performance.
