The Rotary Club of Lindisfarne along with the ML Egeria Presents

An evening with Tristan Gourlay

On 28 March 2026, after 139 days alone at sea, Tasmanian sailor Tristan Gourlay crossed the finish line at the Iron Pot in the River Derwent and claimed the Australian record for a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the world — beating the previous record by 41 days. Remarkably, the record he broke belonged to his own father, Ken Gourlay, who set it in 2007. It's a father-and-son milestone unmatched in Australian sailing.

Aboard his 17-metre yacht Blue Moon II, Tristan covered 21,600 nautical miles through some of the most remote and unforgiving waters on Earth. The voyage tested everything: a galley fire that left him without hot food or heating, a failed autopilot that meant hand-steering through long nights on the final leg home, and the relentless demands of keeping boat and body going with no outside help.

Join us at the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania for an unforgettable evening as Tristan shares the full story — the preparation, the setbacks, the wildlife encounters and the moments of pure magic that only come from months alone on the open ocean.
