Join Us for a Bug Hunt During Bugs In My Backyard Week!
As part of Bug In My Backyard Week (16-22 November 2026), Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare (CHRL) will be hosting a fun and fascinating Bug Hunt on Tuesday 17th November.
Bug Hunt is Australia’s national citizen science project, helping scientists better understand our incredible native invertebrates while improving Australia’s ability to detect invasive species early.
Participants are asked to find a bug, take photos and upload them using iNaturalist. Every photo uploaded to iNaturalist helps scientists better understand Australia's incredible mini-beasts and detect invasive species before they become a problem. By taking part, you'll be contributing to real scientific research while discovering the amazing diversity of insects living right on our doorstep.
We'll be joined by our resident entomologist Phil Bowden (CHRL Executive Committee member and Korora Landcare Site Coordinator), who will share his knowledge of all things insects and help us uncover the hidden creatures that call our local bushland home.
Why join the Bug Hunt?
Discover a hidden world
Thousands of fascinating creatures are living right under our noses. Come and see what you can find!
Help real science
Every observation recorded contributes to Australia's understanding of native wildlife and helps create a nationwide snapshot of insect life.
Protect Australian biodiversity
Photos can help identify invasive species early while documenting rare and important native species.
Fun, free and for everyone
No experience is needed. Whether you're a keen naturalist or simply curious, everyone is welcome.
Bring your curiosity, a smartphone or camera, and get ready to explore the wonderful world of bugs!
