MELT Festival presents: pinkNOISE - a new event that aims to shine a spotlight on the varied and wonderful music created by Meanjin/Brisbane's LGBTQIA+ indie/alternative artists.
pinkNOISE will feature the diverse sounds of Indigo Hue, STAN, Daylight Ghosts and ÚMBRIEL.
STAN
STAN are a three piece from Meanjin (Brisbane) who bring you refreshing honesty in their brand of slacker rock. Filled with witty and candid lyrics with driving rhythms to match, STAN lays their souls bare and invites listeners to find comfort in shared experiences.
ÚMBRIEL
ÚMBRIEL are an electronic, art-pop quartet based in Brisbane, Australia. Once described as “Like Enya on Steroids”, this flamboyant collection are guaranteed to seduce you into their strange, other-world where string quartets battle industrial synthesizers, all held together with a voice that is incandescent in its ability to grow, to strike, to pierce, and to mend, surrendering into vivid and emotive expression. With influences spanning from New Order, to Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Bjork, ÚMBRIEL blends orchestral theatricality, erotic depth, and pop appeal with industrial grit. ÚMBRIEL is a musician and performer whose process and work participates within myriad modalities and styles. This is freak-pop by genre, unsettled by its context, strident in its content.
ÚMBRIEL is a liminal being, an artist tempered by technique and vivid in intuitive catharsis. They embrace emotionality and expression as twins in the poetry of their work. ÚMBRIEL seeks an intimacy with their internal landscape, becoming a hollow bone to channel stories from the other side. Striving to become an oracle of dynamism in their writing and performance.
Indigo Hue
Get ready to fall in love with Meanjin-based artist Indigo Hue: whether you need a track to scream, cry or just groove to, her cheeky, confident indie-rock, jazz-folk sound has you covered. Indigo Hue sings about her life as she’s experiencing it, processed through her lyrics and trusty guitar. With two singles out, her latest release 'The Room' and her debut single ‘Romantic Overthinker’ plunge her audiences into the start and end of her first queer experiences. She has graced stages, supporting artists such as Matt Maltese, Maddy Jane, Bakers Eddy and Suzi. In July (2024) Hue embarked on her first headline Australian tour with Melbourne's own, Hassall; The Hassall and Indigo Hue 'Love Your Guts!' Tour, accompanied by the talented Will Conway, the trio hit the rock frog n' toad across the country.
Daylight Ghosts
Daylight Ghosts are an ever-evolving, self-described “dark-indie-folktronica” duo with a “devil may care” attitude to genre conventions. Originally conceived as a way for the members to explore dark-folk and indie folk, the group’s musical ambitions quickly grew to take in a myriad of outside influences from electronica, post-punk, indie pop and more.
Coupled with this adventurous approach is Adam Dawe’s melancholy lyricism and voice that evoke dark nights of the soul and the painful journey of hard lessons learned. Sometimes yearning, sometimes brimming with righteous anger and sometimes nearly falling apart, Adam’s voice is the consistent element that keeps DG’s sound grounded and, most importantly, human.
