Concert on the occasion of the Day of German Unity

This event has reached maximum capacity, we thank you for your understanding.

This year the third of October falls on a Sunday and we cannot wait to celebrate this important day in history with you. We have brought it forward to kick-off Australia’s most German Week at Mercedes-Benz Newstead this year! We will celebrate the Day of German Unity, celebrated as German National Day, with a unique concert by the Queensland Youth Orchestras partnered with Opera Queensland and our emerging talented German Youth Choir. Thirty-one years on, we celebrate in commemoration of the anniversary of German reunification in 1990 for last year when no celebration could happen. This day celebrates a reunited Germany now consisting of 16 states and a population of more than 83 million.

We have again chosen our local landmarks Victory Bridge, Story Bridge and also the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges, to be illuminated in the German colours on Sunday, the third of October.

In light of recent changes to Queensland Government restrictions relating to the pandemic, a COVID safe plan is implemented for all BGW events and masks must be worn. Please note the following additional event restrictions apply:

  • Indoor – 1 person per 4 square metres or 75% capacity with ticketed and allocated seating
  • Smaller venues up to 200 square metres – 1 person per 2 square metres, up to a maximum of 50
  • Outdoor – 1 person per 2 square metres
  • Eating and drinking must be seated
  • No dancing except at weddings.
