The Miriam Lieberman Trio returns to The Django on Saturday 14th November, celebrating Miriam’s forthcoming album Bridge in Time and the release of new single Part of a Oneness.
The trio’s distinctive sound has been described by The Guardian’s Janine Israel as “sprightly kora, playful strings and dreamy three-part harmonies”, as though “Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon had convened in a Bamako back street.”New single Part of a Oneness was inspired by the ocean as both refuge and wilderness — the experience of becoming small within something vast and remembering our connection to the larger living world
Australian singer-songwriter, guitarist and kora player Miriam Lieberman creates luminous, richly textured music shaped by significant periods living and studying with traditional musicians and griots in West Africa. There she developed a deep relationship with the kora, the 21-string West African harp, now central to her musical voice.
Together with her trio - violinists and vocalists Susie Bishop and Lara Goodridge. Lieberman brings Bridge in Time to the stage through shimmering kora, guitar, intricate strings and soaring three-part harmonies.
A National Folk Festival NSW State Showcase Act (2018), Lieberman’s previous releases have received national recognition, including ABC Radio National Album of the Week for Birds of the Moon, while Just Transforming was named among The Guardian’s best Australian albums of 2021.
“A transformative experience filled with grace and gratitude.” — Rhythms
