I am most excited to be offering my first ever online event as THE TAP MENTOR!
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR TEACHING TAP!
Over the past 35 years, I have specialised in the art of teaching tap and have developed numerous tips and tricks to help you convey tapping steps, rhythms, progressions, and pathways to your students. I also have lots of great ideas on how to keep classes fun, and effective!
In this two hour training I will discuss a range of topics including, but not limited to:
1. The importance of repetition, hearing students tap individually and how to keep class fun.
2. Strategies for keeping the class under control, interesting, engaging, and moving fluidly.
3. How to teach technique, cross phrasing, even rhythms, understanding time versus rhythm, canon, style, rhythmic and visual phrasing and the coherence required for a student to be a great tapper.
4. How to inspire creativity and choreographic ability in your students.
5. Looking outward to the professional world of tap to keep your tapping current.
6. Clever tricks to improve your choreography for groups and routines utilising the different tapping standards in your classes.
7. The importance of the correct placement of the accent in all steps and rhythms, to both hold time and create pleasing aural phrasing.
8. How to inspire and encourage more students to study tap.
9. Changing your tap teaching techniques to handle different age groups.
10. The importance of understanding how to teach tap and the specific skills required. [ body, rhythmic, time, vocal stylings, holding tempo etc]
11. Using props to enhance your tap experience.
12. Tap as an entry level genre for your dance school.
13. Tips and tricks for bringing some of your jazz students into the mix to create larger more dynamic performance pieces.
14. Adding tap to your performance repertoire - competitions / festivals / fairs / events!
15. Different ways to connect with your students, to cater to their specific way of learning.
Should time allow, I shall also take questions from the participants.
As this is a ZOOM session, I shall use my hands to clap out most rhythms and teaching ideas, as well as screen sharing samples where appropriate. I may also demonstrate in my sneakers, so as not to create to much distracting noise. You will not need your tap shoes - but if you wish to try things out during the session - please mute yourself so as not to disturb others.
No refund, Should you not be able to attend, I invite you to gift or sell your ticket to another teacher or student teacher.
