The International Day of Forests celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of current and future generations.

Whilst we celebrate trees and forests everyday at the Arboretum, on this day we like to focus on a particular theme. This year the theme is Medicine and Food.

Since ancient times, trees have provided us with medicine, food, fibre and shelter. Think of aspirin from willow trees, quinine from cinchona trees and maple syrup from maple trees. Join one of our most experienced guides and learn about the cultural and medicinal uses of some of the trees found at the Arboretum.

This is a free walk however bookings are essential. Moderate fitness required.

Please wear sturdy, covered footwear, dress for the weather conditions and bring water.
