Sunshine Coast Jazz & Brews Fest
The Jazz Sessions along with the Glass House Brewery are hosting the Sunshine Coast's first jazz and beer festival! The Sunshine Coast Jazz & Brews Fest will be six hours of amazing jazz, craft beers, fine wines, gourmet food, music and fun. Sit under the marquee or under the stars, sip a smooth brew as you enjoy swinging classics, gypsy jazz, New Orleans horns, smooth grooves, soulful singers and incredible world jazz. Possibly the first festival for 2021, let's celebrate the return of live music!
Artists:
The Sunshine Coast Jazz & Brews fest will feature some of the top jazz artists in Queensland:
Gus Fenwick's Orvieto Band featuring Louie Shelton: what happens when some of the best musicians in Australia get into a recording studio together? Gus Fenwick and his friends Jim Kelly, Louis Shelton and Doug Gallacher all have amazing credits to their name. Between them all, they have played with Renee Geyer, John Farnham, Jon English, Robben Ford, Boz Scaggs, Lionel Richie, The Monkees, John Lennon, Marvin Gaye, B.B. King, James Morrison, Randy Crawford, Ricky May, Cliff Richard, Brian Cadd, Russell Morris, Petula Clark and Pete Townshend and many, many more. Getting together in the studio, they have recorded a great mix of jazz fusion tunes composed by Gus. These amazing musicians have created an incredible album that you just have to hear. Attendees of the Jazz and Brews Fest will be the first in Australia to catch this incredible band performing the songs from Gus Fenwick's album, Orvieto. We can't wait to see a couple of the greatest guitarists in the world!
Manouche Bop: Camaron De La Vega (flamenco/Manouche guitar), Javier Spicer (jazz/Manouche guitar) and Lachlan McKenzie (bass/trumpet) play together as 'Manouche Bop'. These fabulous musicians come together through a love of Bebop and Manouche (Gypsy) Jazz. With a love of Bird, Dizzy, Wes and Miles, to a deep
passion for Django and Grappelli, they skilfully blend the sound of both the American and Parisian pioneers of the art form. Bebop and Manouche share similar stylistic nuances, and with a vast repertoire of both genres, Manouche Bop Trio bring on the swing!
Jess Spina: Jess is a rising star in the Queensland jazz scene. Since her first performance at the Brisbane jazz club when she was 9, she has established herself as one of the most sought after jazz vocalists in Brisbane. Her warm and genuine stage presence draws audiences in and invites them to connect with the music, and every musician on stage. Jess graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2019 with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Voice and is now further developing her skills through the Masters of Vocal Pedagogy. Her experience as a performer ranges from regular local gigs to International festivals. Performing with some of Brisbane's finest jazz musicians, this will be a real treat.
Estampa: Estampa is a World/Folk/Jazz quartet based in Brisbane, Australia. Evoking visions of Parisian laneways, South American sensuality, and the unbridled joy of European folk-music, Estampa delivers an energetic, internationally-inspired performance. Combining a unique blend of violin, voice, piano accordion, guitar and double bass, this group of fiery musicians is sure to appeal to a diverse and eager-to-dance audience. Expect an eclectic experience that will leave you feeling like you’ve entered a 1930’s Parisian jazz club or the streets of São Paulo.
The group features Rebecca Karlen on violin and vocals, Paul Henderson on guitar, John Reeves on piano accordion and Samuel Vincent on double bass. These well established musicians come from diverse musical backgrounds and together perform an eclectic mix of music, including French jazz and chansons, Brazilian instrumental music, Bossa
Nova, Scandinavian and other World Folk music
Horn Dawgs:
Meet the ‘Horn-Dawgs’, Brisbane's newest and most dynamic Brass Band. Led by Australian jazz stalwart Dave Theak, the ‘Dawgs’ aim to replicate and expand on the classic sounds of New Orleans musical institutions Re-Birth Brass Band, Treme Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band, Trombone Shorty & the Brass-a holics. This incredible line-up featuring some of Brisbane most experienced musicians alongside emerging talents, will bring together the time-honoured Brass Band tradition peppered with modern funk, and a healthy dose of good time-shake your booty-shout chorus-New Orleans Soul. The Horn Dawgs are: Dave Theak, ‘Papa' Joe Roberts - saxophones; Lachlan McKenzie, Luke Stephens - trumpets; David Murtough - trombone; Greg Chillcott- sousaphone; Aaron Jansz - bass drum, Gary Eldershaw - snare drum
