PAULINE BAILEY (VIC) IN CONVERSATION WITH GEORGE RIGATOS + WILLIE J MAXWELL

Butchers Brew Bar is delighted to present the latest in our series showcasing our favourite writers, featuring readings, discussion, author insights & Q&A.  This event features PAULINE BAILEY in conversation with GEORGE RIGATOS & WILLIE J MAXWELL, two renowned artists on the Australian blues scene who both feature in Volume 5 of her 'Blues Portrait' series.

⭐️ PAULINE BAILEY is a Melbourne-born visual artist & author based in Gippsland, Victoria. She paints urban & rural landscapes, street scenes, portraits & still life, & is recognised for her depictions of Melbourne’s music venues & iconic buildings. She is the author of a series of books about the Australian blues scene: “Blues Portrait” – A profile of the Australian Blues Scene (Volumes 1, 2, 3 & 4) & she recently won the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society Allan Stafford Award for Services to Blues Music.

Blues Portrait Vol. 5 is her latest book in this series.  Forty musicians talk about their influences, creative experiences & how blues music has inspired their individual musical journeys.  Foreword by Fiona Boyes.

⭐️ GEORGE RIGATOS is one of the most in-demand bass players & guitarists on the Sydney Blues & Roots Scene, known for his strong groove & versatility.  Winner of the 2024 Sydney Blues Society Members' Poll 'Guitarist of the Year', George is also kept busy as convenor of Rox 'n Jam, connecting musicians at all levels in jams & workshops across Sydney.

⭐️ WILLIE J MAXWELL was captured by the blues from a young age.  He grew up listening to his parent’s record collection – Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, BB King, Buddy Guy & classic 70s rock.  At the ripe age of 5, Willie J picked up his first guitar.  When he turned 13, he started his first band.  Having worked his way through metal & hard rock, he has now returned to his passion, his love of the blues.  As a solo artist, Willie J puts his spin on blues classics as well as throwing in some original tunes – turning it up to 11 with high energy rock & roll, soulful timbre & sick guitar licks.

*Copies of “Blues Portrait” Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4.& 5 will be on sale at the venue at this event*
