AMA (NSW) Webinar: VMO Arbitration Update

On Friday, AMA (NSW) filed its evidence for the Visiting Medical Officer arbitration hearing, set down for hearing next year before Justice David Chin of the NSW Industrial Court.

AMA (NSW) has also now completed six days of conciliation as a part of the arbitration process. In accordance with Justice Chin's orders, we participated in conciliation to try to limit the issues in dispute between the parties and, therefore, the length of the hearing before the arbitrator. We had some success but, unfortunately, most matters remain contested in part or in whole.

The evidence we have obtained from Visiting Medical Officers, including about 25 witnesses, features compelling information on the roles VMOs play in advancing patient care and improving patient outcomes, together with their contributions to the training of the future medical workforce.

Technology has changed the way many services are delivered, and we will continue to advocate for the Determinations to be modernised to reflect these changes and the value VMOs bring to the system and their patients.
