Guest speakers:

Andrew Turbill – How Australia gave song to the world: Gondwana Origin of Songbirds

If you were to stick your head out the window and listen to your local birds on any day of the year, chances are you'll be hearing the voices of birds whose ancestors evolved from ancient Gondwanan rainforests. Rainforests who themselves have an evolutionary story that can be traced back to a time when Australia was still joined to a forested, ice-free Antarctica. In this sweeping presentation, Andrew Turbill will do his utmost to unpack the epic story of the Gondwanan origin of songbirds in Australia and how we ought to be proud of those voices out the window. Andrew is a local environmental educator and wildlife naturalist with a professional background in conservation science. One of his greatest passions is birds and he has an extensive knowledge of bird ecology including studying bird language. Andrew will present to us the fascinating story of the Gondwana Origin of Songbirds.

Brett Vercoe - Rewilding Narlu

Brett & Lisa Vercoe have been working hard over the past few years to rewild an ex dairy farm out in the Orara Valley. Brett will share with us their vision for Narlu and their achievements so far in restoring Lowland rainforest and koala habitat to create a functioning natural ecosystem.
