Australian Footbike Association

The Australian Footbike Association supports and promotes the sport of footbiking in Australia. Whilst in its infancy here, the sport is well established in other parts of the world, especially Northern Europe where it is usually the preferred summer sport of those who participate in cross-country skiing as it uses similar muscles.

The word "footbike" is the equivalent of "car" or "bicycle". The most common brand in Australia is a Kickbike (check out http://www.kickbike.com.au   ) and this would be the equivalent of a Ford car or Giant bicycle.

The Kickbike website shares information about the comparative health benefits of kicking over running or cycling, for example. For many years kicking has been a secret training tool for some of Australia's great sports teams (including AFL and rugby union) and is especially useful when recovering from injury.

The Footbike World Championships are held bi-annually and this year are in Pilsen in the Czech Republic. In 2012, 5 Australians competed at St Wendel near Frankfurt in Germany.
