Trio Grande
Melbourne's own Trio Grande began in 2018 with Jane Hilson and Brian Fitzgerald moonlighting from a country band they were working in, to play a little of the rhythm and blues they both love. Then Chris Molnar came along and made them rootsier than ever. They emphasise the 'Grande' more than the 'Trio' and have been seen out as a four, five or six piece, so whether this four-piece version is bursting at the seams or shrunken in the wash is a little hard to tell. The important thing is their special take on a rich repertoire drawn from the diverse worlds of soul, blues, country and gospel music.
Jane Hilson brings a big voice and true respect to everything she sings. She is a fine and unique interpreter of the classics of roots music.
Chris Molnar, a blues singer and harmonica player of real depth who takes his inspiration from the Chicago and Memphis greats, has taken tips from Junior Wells and Brownie McGhee, and like them he works to entertain.
Brian Fitzgerald takes pride in keeping his guitar parts clear and true to genre, whether its a soul number, a deep blues or a country thumbpicking workout.
Bassist Mike St.Clair-Miller has been in the engine room of Melbourne's roots music scene long enough to be the stuff of legend. We are proud and lucky to have him on board.
