The reception on the occasion of the Day of German Unity on 3 October will be a wonderful evening that celebrates our unified country. West End's Thomas Dixon Centre will be hosting us this year at their magnificent rooftop terrace. Home of the Queensland Ballet since 1991, visitors will be able to witness a classy combination of contemporary architecture, performing arts and community engagement in a historic building constructed in 1908.
We thank Minister for Multicultural Affairs Hon Leanne Linard for confirming her attendance on a special night like this, where there will be no shortage of chances to catch-up with old friends and to build new relationships.
We very much thank the long-standing support of the wonderful Queensland Youth Orchestras as well as the dedication of the German Youth Choir thanks also to conductor Beatrice Klepper for providing light entertainment during the official part of the night.
The third of October is the Day of German Unity, celebrated as German National Day. It commemorates German reunification in 1990 when the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic were reunited. The German Unity Day has been a national public holiday since 1990, when the reunification was formally completed. Each year, the capital of the German state that resides the Bundesrat is host of the so called Bürgerfest. In 2022, this celebration took place in Erfurt, Thüringen.
Last year, the Story Bridge and the Victoria Bridge were lit up in a stunning display of lights in the colours of the German flag on the evening of the 3 October. The Gateway Bridge was shining red for us on 1 October, complementing the yellow street lights and black sky….
Gratitude goes to the fantastic support of the City of Brisbane every year for Brisbane German Week.
