Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation
The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation, which provides support for women and men diagnosed and being treated for breast cancer, and their families within the Hunter Region. It does this by providing transportation to and from treatment, post-operative comfort cushions and providing professional lawn maintenance and house cleaning services for those undergoing treatment – free of charge. The Foundation also supports the education of young people who have parents with breast cancer by assisting with the cost of extras at school such as uniforms, tutoring and excursion expenses. The Foundation has also donated medical equipment to a number of Hunter hospitals and funds scholarships for students whose parents are undergoing treatment. We also have a Scholarship Program with the University of Newcastle to ensure that the next generation of breast care nurses are highly trained and prepared.
Recently, the Foundation also introduced a Survivorship Program in the Hunter – a world first in terms of helping women to access the highest standard supportive therapy that they may not otherwise be able to afford. These programs include Meditation & Mindfulness, EQUIP’d for Empowerment and Revive, a fitness program. This combined with the practical grassroots assistance we already provide makes the Foundation unique amongst breast cancer charities.
