Tokyo Connection feat. Shunosuke Ishikawa (JAPAN)

Shunosuke Ishikawa & Aaron Blakey met in Tokyo back in 2008 & immediately became great friends as well as musical brothers! Ishikawa had just returned from the Netherlands & Blakey had just arrived in Tokyo from NZ. 

Shunosuke is visiting Sydney for a short trip & has put together a great band featuring some of Sydney’s most swinging young stars, including Blakey on piano, Lachlan Mckenzie on trumpet, Jacob Graham on bass & George Greenhill on drums.

Shunosuke Ishikawa studied jazz at the University of New Orleans & the Rotterdam Conservatory. Since returning to Japan, he has played in his own leader band & supported artists such as Takeshi Nakatsuka, Karen Aoki & Kome Kome Club, & joined BIG HORNS BEE in 2019.

Shu has also performed as a big band member of Quincy Jones The 80th Celebration Live in Japan. & played with Jazz greats Nicholas Payton, Lee Konitz, Russell Batiste), Bernard Purdie, Tommy Smith, John Abercrombie, Gerard Presencer, Adam Nussbaum to name a few. 

Shu is an integral part of the Tokyo Jazz scene & is well known for Interpreting for workshops & interviews with the likes of Eric Alexander, Dick Oatts, Scott Hamilton, Paquito D’Rivera, Ravi Coltrane, Mark Turner, Kirk Whalum, Max Ionata, Bob Shepard, Bill Evans, Ben van Gelder, Vincent Herring, Candy Dulfer & Roy Hargrove.
